State-Wide 1st-8th Grade MathFest Competition

  • This is not a State Math Tournament qualifying tournament

  • Additional Notes: The National School Improvement Alliance MathFest Competitions will be conducted in 22 cities across the country. Open to all 1st – 8th Graders. Students will work to qualify for the Regional Competitions to be held in Atlanta, St. Louis, or Philadelphia. A National Championship is being planned for Washington, DC in May 2018. The first qualifying competition will be help in Macon, Georgia. During a nearly 10-hour day, thousands of elementary and middle school students will rotate in and out of the MathFest selected facility solving math problems. Hundreds will qualify for the Regional and National Events.

  • Additional Notes: The tournament is held on the campus of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. Registration on the morning of the tournament is in the Russell Union (at the address listed above). Other portions of the tournament will occur in the Math/Physics Building and Hanner Fieldhouse. The Georgia Southern Mathematics Tournament is an annual invitational tournament serving the East Central and Southeast regions of Georgia. You must receive an official invitation to participate. There are three categories of competition: Varsity: Any students in grades 6 - 12 may compete in the Varsity Category. The emphasis will be on advanced high school mathematics. Junior Varsity: Any students in grades 6 - 10 may compete in the Junior Varsity Category. The emphasis will be on the first two years of high school mathematics. Middle School: Any students in grades 6 - 8 may compete in the Middle School Category. The emphasis will be on middle school mathematics. Each school may enter at most 6 teams per category. Each team may consist of at most 4 students.
